Chapter 2. Why Your LinkedIn Profile May Not Be Working

If LinkedIn is not generating profile views, recruiter approaches, meaningful conversations or useful visibility, it is usually because your profile is not giving LinkedIn, recruiters or people in your network enough clear evidence of your experience, value and match.

Common problems include:

• Your headline is too vague.

• Your About section does not say what you actually do.

• Your experience reads like copied job descriptions.

• Your skills are not aligned to the roles you want.

• Your current direction is unclear.

• Your profile uses internal company language rather than market language.

• You have not included enough recruiter-searchable keywords.

• Your strongest evidence is buried too far down.

For example, a headline such as:

Experienced Leader | Passionate About People | Open to New Opportunities may feel warm, but it does not help a recruiter search for you.

A stronger headline would be:

HR Business Partner | Employee Relations | Organisational Change | Workforce Engagement

This is clearer because it includes searchable, role-relevant language, and moves you from vague visibility to intentional positioning.
