Chapter 9. How to choose Key Skills

Your skills section supports search and credibility; LinkedIn allows many skills, but that does not mean every skilldeserves equal attention.

Start with your keyword bank and identify:

skills required in your target roles

skills you genuinely have

skills that support your positioning

skills recruiters are likely to search

Choose 15–20 priority skills first, but remember you can use up to 100 Key Skills…

Examples might include, depending on role/experience:

Stakeholder Engagement

Project Management

Change Management

Operational Leadership

Employee Relations

Commercial Analysis

Process Improvement

Team Leadership

Budget Management

Risk Management

Strategic Planning

Data Analysis

Customer Experience

Digital Transformation

Business Development

Avoid filling your skills section with vague traits such as:

hardworking

friendly

reliable

motivated

Those qualities matter, but they do not help search in the same way. Also remove outdated skills that no longer support your target direction, your LinkedIn skills should tell the algorithm and the recruiter what you are relevant for now.
